The problem
Dazzl turns self-improvement into a game. Tasks, goals and wellbeing habits earn rewards, pets and upgrades. That makes it several apps in one: a productivity tool, an audio and video content platform, and a game with its own economy. All of it has to feel smooth, not complicated.
What I built
- Tasks and goals with categories, reminders, repeat schedules and an analytics dashboard.
- Focus sessions with background music.
- Wellbeing tools: mood check-ins, breathing exercises, guided audio resets and journaling.
- Audio and video content: motivation, spotlight and sleep sessions.
- Gamification: virtual pets that grow with progress, a customisable room, quests, badges, levels and a reward wheel.
- Custom animations throughout.
How I approached it
Care where apps like this break.
Repeating tasks, date ranges and progress rules are where gamified apps usually go wrong, and they got the most attention. The founder specifically called out that I think through edge cases and propose solutions.
Clear, frequent updates.
A product this broad changes direction often. Frequent, specific progress updates meant the founder always knew where things stood.
